Hey there, hi there, ho ho ho there, everybody… I just got back from a week-long trip to the Icehotel in JukkasjÀrvi, Sweden. Cold, you ask? Between -20C(-4F) and -30C(-22F) every day. ‘Tis nice to be home in SF, where it’s wet, but comparatively warm…

What on earth was I doing way up there, high above the Arctic Circle? Good question. To make a long story short (and trust me–it is a LONG story), I write for the Icehotel occasionally and have collaborated with this guy for the past few years to make a “yearbook” for the icy hotel, showing off the art and artists that make the place what it is. So I was up there again to check it out and take a few notes. (You can see parts of the previous design books here and here.)

But since I can’t really go anywhere these days without my Snuzz Detector going off, I snapped up a few shots of some dogsledding stars when I was there. Unfortunately, it’s pretty dark up there this time of year, so my photos were nothing to snuzz home about, so I asked my good friend and photographer Ben Nilsson if I could use a few of his shots from last year. These shots should help to get your winter cheer up and at ‘em, if it isn’t already. It is worth mentioning that the sled dogs up there are special, super loving creatures. These dogs LOVE to run and really have a great time showing people around this amazing Winter Wonderland. Enjoy!

    Very snuzzy pooches!

Did anyone else notice that all the dogs are sporting very large smiles? Being half Swedish, I can say this: “We are definitely completely nuts!” An igloo hotel?!! Personally, I do not think that “igloo” and “hotel” belong so close together grammatically or otherwise. I prefer “soft fluffy towels” and “large cozy beds.”
