He looks sort of like the generations of woodchucks who have built themselves an elaborate underground tunnel system in our backyard. I want to grab the fur on both sides of his face and give him a huge kiss on the nose. I do not normally feel this way about rodents–my usual response to close encounters of the rodent kind is YIKES!!

This is not really a “rat”, as I have some pet rats..and raise some for pets stores at times, but the Capybara is simply one of the larger rodent types…of which” rats” is just another sub-category.

People need to adopt pets that are good for the pets, and for the people, over the lifetime of the animal, for a good compatability fit, and not for fad. So many rabbits are bought after Easter, and dumped a year later when the reality of their care and long-term maintenance is experienced. The same for small pigs…and later they grow to 100-200 lbs. Being “cute” is not enough for any animal, nor for this more exotic “rodent” type pet. If you want long-term “cute” you should instead buy a foam stuffed “fake” animal. I feel this “Capybara” has likely a very good home…so is a good care taker-animal fit!

What about the R.O.U.S.’s? Rodents of Unusual Size? I don’t think they exist. http://snuzzy.com/giant-rat-pet/
