Long-time reader Christine wrote in today, responding to my question yesterday about pets in costumes:

Hi, Anders–

You asked about pets in clothing and costumes. My older dog, Greta Garbo, is generally emotionally reserved apart from her hatred of German Shepherds, backhoes and military shotgun salutes. My younger dog, Audrey Hepburn, is very emotional, but only about empty dog dishes and me leaving her behind, which causes hysterical wailing and howling.

Greta adores clothing. I’ve sewed a wardrobe of fancy seasonal bandanas for the dogs. Audrey could care less. When I go to Greta with a bandana, whomp-whomp-whomp goes her tail and she smiles. One time (before I got Audrey) I took Greta to the office in a Hawiian outfit with a grass skirt for Hawiian shirt Friday. She was very pleased with herself as you can see!

She also likes shirts and t-shirts. She was a mascot for my son’s football team. I got a school t-shirt in large, put it on backwards and tied a knot with the droopy part under her belly. She was very proud of herself.

Here she is watching Luke be QB for Williston-Northhampton School in western MA.

So I think if your pet gets a charge out of being a mall babe or dude fashion hound, have fun with it. If it makes them embarrassed and they try to escape from the clothing, then one must respect that. If like Audrey, who doesn’t care one way or the other, then what the heck–have fun with it.

There are other pictures of Greta and Audrey, like Super Dog and Bat Puppy, on their site. The homepage has a photo of them in their Oriental silk dog evening coats that I sewed for them.

Blessings to you and Tailer,
Christine, Greta & Audrey

Thanks so much for sending these in, Christine!
