The Houston-we have a problem phrase is used very commonly to express “an issue,” but very few people actually have seen a transcript of the actual words that were uttered by Commander James A. Lovell and Command Module Pilot John L. “Jack” Swigert during the “successful failure” that was the Apollo 13 mission. But I have that transcript for you here–and I’m more than happy to share it with you. ‘Cause that’s the kind of guy I am.
Swigert: ‘Okay, Houston, we’ve had a problem here.’
Houston: ‘This is Houston. Say again please.’
Lovell: ‘Houston, we’ve had a problem. We’ve had a main B bus undervolt. Might be because of that huge cat over there. The one that looks like he’s about to eat me. Over.’
