… the world would be a much less snuzzy place, that’s fer shure.

Following is a great take on what it’s like to own A BUNCH of dogs–a bit of viral snuzz that wagged and slobbered its way into my inbox this week.

If I Didn’t Have Dogs…

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn’t sound like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would have money…and no guilt to go on a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with six veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grand kids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, F-R-I-S-B-E-E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E, G-O, R-I-D-E

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.

I’d look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading ‘mud’ season.

I would not have to answer the question ‘Why do you have so many animals?’ from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How EMPTY my life would be!

**UPDATE! Do YOU have a big group of dogs? Do your best to get them to sit still for a group photo and send it in to anders/at/dogster/dot/com. I’ll post the best group photos next week on snuzzy.com and post all entries on the Snuzzy Flickr account!!**

I WISH I had this problem! I’d love to have a whole herd of dogs. Alas, no room, no yard… As soon as we get a house with a fenced yard, we’re getting bunches of dogs.

I’m down to only one chihuahua at this point but have always had animals around..you’ve described life with pets better than anyone could. They ARE angels!
Those who don’t “get it” are missing out on one of the most beautiful lessons and love the universe has given us!

I’ve never had so many dogs, except when my dog had her babies, but I remember that we had sixteen cats once!

I have 2 cats and 1 tiny dog right now that are my kids. I love them no end and consider them my family. Some no-petsfolks think that’s kind of nuts, but hey…they have NO idea what they are missing!

I loved the comment about figuring out where everyone would sleep. I have a Greyhound-Shepherd, Cockapoo, and CockerSpaniel. They are all very particular about where they settle down in my bed and if one gets in the other’s “spot” there is heck to pay. I am lucky to find a place for me! But, I could not think of trading the inconvenience considering the love I receive each day from all three!

maybe if your animals were trained, you wouldn’t need baby gates or to give up your bed, and your house wouldn’t look like a daycare either.

  19. mik posted a comment on October 25th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

I have animals too, but my house is very clean because as a result of training they like to stay in one area as long as they can see me, baby gates are a sign of a lack of training.

I think its fair comment about the lack of training. Dogs are completely happy when they know where the boundaries are. I have happy pooches who are not allowed on the furniture.

my house is clean as well with out baby gates but it depends on yout definition of clean. I have pet toys everywhere but it makes my home look lived in not dirty. Training can make a difference but cleanliness has nothing to do with training.
