Awww, dogs are so loyal. I’ve always wanted to travel with a pet. Have any of you ever taken your dogs with you on adventures?

Yes! I’m a backpacker and I’ve taken both my dogs on many of our adventures. They’ve hiked mountains in the Adirondacks, Canoed on many of WNY’s lakes and rivers, they’ve even camp with me on many overnight adventures. As long as we are not too close to other campers, they sleep like logs! Busy camp sites, they can’t sleep, I guess they are too nosey ;).
Yes! I met both my dogs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We’ve visited the Perfume Pagoda and Halong Bay in Vietnam. We have been to the Killing Fields in Cambodia as tour guides numerous times. Walked through many sites in Bangkok and traveled from Disney World to Ontario. Canoeing, kayaking and have a trailer just for the dogs on my bicycle. We have not camped but we have stayed in many hotels. I’ll never leave a dog alone in a hotel room again, though! Tend to wreck things.
My adventures with my two big blonde Afghan Hounds are local. We’ll drive the 40 minutes to Crane Beach, Ipswich, MA, and walk 5 miles along the shore. We go to Wakefield, MA, and walk around the big lake — 3 miles. Both give many chances to socialize with people, dogs and babies in strollers. We’ve gone on church hikes in NH and VT, quite the workout with two Afghans who can jump 3 feet or more to the next rock from standing position. (Afghans must always be on lead or they chase something and you will never catch them.)
Dogs: in our town we walk to the conservation meadows and scare the birds. We do not go there at night on account of coyotes and monsters. We visit the dry cleaners and climb on the platform over which they hang clothing. We think dry cleaning sounds better than a bath. We go into the bank, put our paws on the counter and snouts through the window and say, “oooooooOOOO!” then the teller gives us a biscuit. We visit the pharmacy and surprise people looking at greeting cards by greeting them from the rear with our noses. On weekends we go to the grammar school and climb all over the giant collection of play equipment. It is fun up there, but the big slide is scary. At home we sit on our Disgusting Dog Couch and bark ferociously at any dog who goes past our house. Going to Cambodia, Disney and Ontario sounds very interesting, but our social calendar is all clogged up near our home.

I have cats. They’d yawn and wave good-bye.
