When I posted this video of me giving my hedgehog a bath I got a bit of guff from the YouTube nuts. A few non-hedgehog owners insisted that hedgehogs are naturally clean and don’t need baths and that bathing a hedgehog is abuse. Any hedgehog owner’s reaction to that would be: “I wish!”
Hedgehogs are so far from being naturally clean. Their favorite hobbies are running, pooping and digging. Hedgehogs can get really dirty really fast and you should bathe them every few weeks using ‘no tears’ baby shampoo to keep them healthy and happy. Otherwise they’ll be susceptible to bacteria that can make them sick. They also really enjoy baths–it’s the least spiky you’ll ever see them. Sometimes I’ll give Max a quick rinse in the water just to calm him down.

And the best part of giving Max a bath is that he looks SO CUTE and snug drying off in his facecloth:

That was very cute and funny. Believe it or not it reminds me of washing my Afghan Hounds. They do not like being wet. They love walks, but hate rain on their fur. I’ve tried many coats, but none work. They must stop every few yards for a giant SHAKE. I wash the dogs in the shower stall one at a time. No collars or bandanas and I am the same. Their basic message is get me OUT of here, like Max in his baking pan. I have a giant stack of towels at the ready, but there are not enough towels in the world to dry two Afghans, who must roll all over my bed, tangle the quilt, and knock off the pillows before resting in towel #14.

You have to watch the dogs watching a dog DVD, then you can see what it’s like after bath time. My dogs are happier being clean and groomed. Well meaning but dopey people should not criticize loving and responsible pet owners.
Found myself yelling at the computer ” Run Max Run!!!!!”
