Both Goldendoodles and Portuguese Water Dogs have been mentioned as being in the running for the next dog to occupy the White House. Hmmm. Let’s see…

This is Milo, a Portuguese Water Dog in our dog community. Yep–perty kyoot.

And this is Maverick. Yes, Maverick. And he’s a Goldendoodle, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. And yep, he’s perty kyoot, too.

What kind of dog do you think the Obamas should get? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

They should go to the POUND and see who falls in love with them, and let the breed be an afterthought!!!

I think I will lose a lot of respect for them if they get a purebred dog. Is that lame?

I think it should be a dog rescued from “death row”…..save a homeless animal Mr. President!!!!!!

A shelter dog. I’m not against getting dogs from breeders, but honestly him getting a dog from a shelter would be a great example to Americans.
As for what breed, whatever would be best for him and his family.

We vote for a shelter/rescue dog. There are breed specific rescues for them to choose from to.

I think that the Obama’s would enjoy a cockapooh. Here is a photo of my dog Ruffels: /Users/lisa/Desktop/IMG_1757.jpg

No matter what dog President Elect Obama and the fist family pick, It should be from the shelter!
This dog and the fact that it’s a shelter dog should be kept in the public eye to promote shelter pet adoption.
President Obama, Paint and I are also a pair of good old American mutts!
    American mutts rock!

I agree that they should get a dog from a shelter, but one of their daughters has allergies, so they should probably get a poodle mix or maybe a dog with really short fur.

The Obamas should get a purebred hypoallergenic dog from a rescue organization. My wife and I have a standard poodle the we adopted a few years ago. He is an absolutely wonderful dog — one of many standards we have had over the past 27 years. Having said that, I hope they don’t get a standard poodle, because it may destroy the breed — encouraging questionalbe breeding to meet demand. Standard poodle is a high maintenance breed that isn’t for everyone.

I think designer breeds (goldendoodles, etc.) are a bad idea. If you want a golden, cocker spaniel or poodle, then get one, but mixing other breeds with
poodles just to oversome the undeserved “sissy” image is misguided.

President Elect Obama has stated he wants to get a dog from the pound. The only problem is his daughters allergies. Hopefully he can find one that will fit the hypoallergenic criteria in the pound. There are all sorts of mixes. A schnauzer or schnauzer mix would also do well. I had a great dobernauzer or schnauzerman. She was a schnauzer/doberman mix.

I think he should get whatever dog he wants. I am not against shelter dogs , but really , the dog is for the kids and if they want a specific breed, let them get it. I now it would be terrible I I really wanted a great dane , for example and felt like I couldnt , shouldnt get one bc then everyone will hate me. If they have the space and money and stuff for a purebred , why shouldnt they get it? Its THEIR dog after all , not anyone else’s. If they want a shelter dog , that cool too , but I hate to think that they will get one just for a good public image , or bc of pressure from ppl. There are many other ways thay can support shelter dogs in the country .
