A Day in One of My Nine Lives

I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning

I woke up with stiff neck

I washed my hair but couldn’t do a thing with it

Made breakfast for the cranky youngsters

and fed the baby a bottle

She dribbled milk all over herself and my new shirt

I loaded up the kids in the carseat and took them to daycare & school

I was late for work, and traffic was a nightmare

I got to the office (I’m a Tech Analyst)

My supervisor chewed me out

for misplacing the mouse

I went out for lunch and got caught in the rain

I left work early to pick up my new eye glasses (wrong size)

I then picked up the kids from school & daycare

And then drove the girls to tap & ballet

When we got back home, all they wanted to do was watch TV

and sing karaoke instead of doing their homework

After much chaos, they took their baths & got ready for bed

And after much hounding, they brushed their teeth

Then I read them their nightly bedtime stories

They finally went to sleep

All of this daily stress is causing me to gain weight

So, I tried doing some aerobics in the living room

Uh oh, I don’t think all the ‘fast-food’ and exercise is agreeing with me

Now, I think I’m getting a migraine

and, a runny nose

I’m pretty certain it’s the flu

After a long and grueling day, I crawled into bed and was just drifting off when

I realized I had forgotten something

So I said my prayers and gave thankz

And next week, I’m off to the spa…

…for some much-needed rest and relaxation

25 Tips for a Successful Workout

This week is the “next week” that I’ve been talking about for weeks now. I have been planning to join a gym and start working out for quite some time now, never really thinking that “next week” would ever arrive.

Next week is now.
*Sigh*

To get motivated, I have come up with the following tips and images that are hopefully going to help me get my workout on. If they work for me, they’ll definitely work for you…

1. If it does hang out, let it.

2. Stretch it out, but look good doing it.

3. Rest between sessions.

4. Try to remember which locker is yours.

5. Remember that even the little weights add up.

6. When you DO look in the mirror, try to smile.

7. Eat your carbs.

8. The bigger guys are always happy to spot you.

9. Don’t take anything from little trolls handing out “Power Bars.”

10. When the pull-up bar gets the upper hand…
hang on for dear life.

11. Cool down and relax whenever you get the chance.

12. Don’t forget to work on that mid-section.

13. Drink lots of milk.

14. Don’t make fun of the chicks doing yoga.

15. Breeeeeathe.

16. Eat a piece of fruit.

17. No matter how silly you feel, keep doing it.

18. Check your hair every now and then
or have someone do it for you.

19. Feeling pretty takes a little time.

20. There’s plenty of room in the locker room.
Go ahead and spread out a bit.

21. Try not to accentuate your humps, your humps, your lovely little lumps.

22. The trainers are there to help.

23. Avoid mischievous looking types lurking in corners.

24. You’re going to want to scream. Just do it.

25. Pick up a bite to eat on the way home.

Flying with a Cat: From Sweden to SF, Part 6

Let me start by once again taking my hat off to people who edit video and upload stuff to YouTube and the like every day–it takes time and patience, something that I don’t always have. It took me FUREVER to sort through all of the clips that I have, and then pick out the best bits and then string them all together and then yadda yadda yadda. But after much ado about yadda, here is the 6th and final episode of Tailer’s trip to San Francisco from Sweden. I apologize for the fact is over seven minutes long, but it was, in fact, a heck of a long trip…

Thanks to those of you who have been offering your support and good wishes to Tailer and me. Knowing that there were people and cats out there pawing for us made the trip much more manageable. We both hope that this little glimpse into the transport of a cat from one far away land to another has been helpful and/or entertaining. We’re glad to have had you along for the ride.

Flying with a Cat: From Sweden to SF, Part 4

Right now, I am at the airport in Stockholm and Tailer and I have made it through security and we boadr the first leg of the flight (to Paris) in about 20 minutes. It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend, with not much great sleep, but we’re both hanging in there and Tailer seems to be not too freaked out about things… so far.

Yesterday, we drove from Grythyttan to Stockholm, and my good friend Ben came over to film the departure. I got more footage of the car ride to Stockholm, but that won’t get edited until I get back to SF, probably. I’ll be adding that and the actual flight footage (if I dare to annoy my fellow passengers and take any) to a post later.

So here’s Tailer leaving the house… Thanks for your help, Ben!

Flying with a Cat: From Sweden to SF, Part 2

This was meant to get published yesterday, er, the day before yesterday, er, shortly after the first post… er… not today, anyhow, but I was having some editing problems before I left SF. These issues continued on the plane, but I was eventually able to figure out what I was doing wrong and have finally uploaded the video. What I was doing wrong is trying to edit video in the first place. I should stick to things less complicated.

Here is that video, an interview with Dr. Eric Barchas, our resident veterinarian dog blogger/cat blogger. Please feel free to leave comments about what Dr. Barchas has to say, or other tips for that matter, either on this post, or over where this little cat video lives.

Just FYI, I am in Sweden now, packing some gear, enjoying what’s left of the fall colors, and heading back to SF with Tailer, via Stockholm and Paris, tomorrow. Flying with a Cat: From Sweden to SF, Part 1

I’ve stepped down from my snuzzbox a few times before and mentioned that I’ll soon be traveling with my cat Tailer from Grythyttan, Sweden, to San Francisco, California. It’s a trip that will involve some heavy hours of “in-carrier” transport, somewhere in the neighborhood of approximately 20 hours straight, which seems a little furrightening, if you ask me. Oh, I’M not the one in the carrier? Whew. I guess it doesn’t seem that bad then. :)

Kidding aside, I have decided to film and document the trip, starting with the pre-trip preparations and an interview with our dog and cat vet Eric Barchas, and following up with some in-transit coverage. This kind of lengthy trip is nothing I have ever done with a pet and I know that there are more than likely other pet owners out there who might benefit from a little behind the scenes look at the process.

That said, here is the first video of my little cat’s trip, which consists of just a few thoughts of mine, a couple days before leaving. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.

How My Week Has Been So Far

First I had trouble getting out of bed…

Then I had a stiff neck…

I washed my hair and couldn’t do a thing with it…

My new diet really doesn’t seem to be working out…

I pulled a muscle when I tried to exercise…

My new hat looked better on me at the store…

I keep losing things…

The boss chewed me out at work…

I got caught in the rain at lunchtime…

Then the lunch I had didn’t seem to agree with me…

Uninvited guests showed up at dinnertime…

I feel trapped…

On top of that I think I’m coming down with the flu…

And finally, I’m alone in the house at night when
I think I hear a noise in the basement…
