No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, there’ no denying that this is a H U G E day in American history. Can’t let it go by without giving props to the new man in charge. He’s got a big job ahead of him, but all the pups and cats are keeping their paws crossed that he’ll be able to keep it all rolling FURward!

Underwhelmed with the choices for President so far? Vote Dawg. Or Cat. Or Rhino. Everybody’s doing it. Check out this excerpt from an L.A. Unleashed article that mentions some purrty cute ballot alternatives over the years…

Molly the Dog, a Dachshund from Oklahoma, named as a candidate in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election.

Pigasus the Immortal, a boar hog that the Yippies nominated as a candidate in the 1968 U.S. presidential election.

Cacareco, a rhinoceros at the Sao Paulo zoo, was a candidate for the 1958 city council elections with the intention of protesting against political corruption. Electoral officials, of course, did not accept Cacareco’s candidacy, but he eventually won 100,000 votes, more than any other party in that same election (which was also marked by rampant absenteeism). Today, the term “Voto Cacareco” (Cacareco vote) is commonly used to describe protest votes in Brazil.

But the political fun doesn’t stop there. Turns out a few Dogsters and Catsters are in the running as well:

Well, that Schmitty’s at it again! For those of us having a hard time trying to decide which human candidate to bark for in the upcoming election, Schmitty is here to lend a helping paw.

The two big questions the poundits are howling about:

Will Schmitty run? and
Would she accept the nomination to run as Vice President?

This groundbreaking story is cutting-edge news because if elected, Schmitty would not only be the first female in the Roval Roffice, but the first dog as well, something that no other candidate has ever come close to being. (Ed. note: While Richard M. Nixon may have occasionally sounded like a dog, he was, indeed, a human being.)
