The Antwerp Zoo, Planckendael, got a double dose of baby giraffe earlier this month as two new giraffe babies were born to different Moms. The births, which occurred within a day of each other, are the first of their kind for Planckendael.

Baby Giraffe Is Tall on Snuzz

Born a couple weeks early at Chester Zoo in the UK, Little Margaret, who is the first female Rothschild giraffe born at the zoo, is being hand-reared by her dedicated keepers. The first calf for six-year-old mum Fay, Margaret tipped the scales at just 34 kilos (75 lbs) and is a mere 5ft tall.

Enough with the words already. Let’s get to the cuteness.

Giraffes and Elephants and Refrigerators, OH MY!

Here’s a little mind game that’ll frustrate you, crack you up AND leave you analyzing your analyticals…

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? Stop and think about it before you scroll down…

The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Did you say: Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the refrigerator?

Wrong answer.

Correct answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your previous actions.

Hee hee.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend …. except one. Which animal does not attend?

Correct answer: The elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there, remember? This tests your memory. Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true abilities.

Oh, geez. Now the pressure’s really on.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

Correct answer: You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the animal meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

Oh man. Turns out I don’t learn that quickly from my ~~mistaykes~~ … er, mistakes…

Vintage London Snuzz

These fantastic shots are a part of the photographic archive of the Zoological Society of London, which can be browsed in its entirety here. Some of the images in the collection date back to the late 19th century, and show how much the London Zoo has changed over the years.

The only thing that hasn’t changed? The snuzz factor–still very, very high.
