Well, this guy sure is pretty cute, though I’m not so very convinced that he wants to be doing what he’s doing. But what do I know…
Whiplash the Tiny cowboy capuchin monkey – from the moment he rides into the rodeo ring on the back of his border collie, he is the star of the show. With the help of his trusty steed, he rounds up a flock of startled sheep. Then there’s the crowd’s favourite ‘hi-ho silver’ moment when the collie becomes a bucking bronco and Whiplash rides tall in the saddle.
His owner, Tommy Lucia, 67, dismisses claims from animal campaigners that Whiplash would be better off in the rainforests of Central or South America, his native habitat.
Whiplash’s fan base is rapidly growing. Like most 21-year-olds, Whiplash is on Facebook. And after starring in a TV ad for a taco restaurant chain, he is also an Internet hit, being seen by millions on YouTube.
Cotton-Topped Tamarins are the punk rockers of the New World monkeys. These little guys were born at Zoo Basel just last week. When alarmed cotton-tops raise the fur on top of their heads to make themselves look bigger and warn others.
This came to me in what is perhaps the giantestest newsletter EVER*, from the San Francisco Zoo. They are letting (human) mommies in for FREE on Mother’s Day, which is May 10!
*This will only make sense to people on the SFZoo mailing list. It takes about 8 mintes to scroll down to the bottom of their most recent email newsletter…

I Stumbled Uponthis site this morning and just had to share it with you. If you look closely, the images above are made up of the letters that make up the words “peacock” and “monkey.” Pretty groovy, eh? But the best parts of the site are the animation and the sound effects… So click here to take a trip to the alphabet zoo… you might want to turn your speakers down or plug in headphones. It’s kind of a loud jungle out there…
I was over on Holy Cuteness today (hey – it’s MY JOB to hang around places like that, okay?) and saw this amazing furry fuzzy ball of funk. This is Elke, a Francois Langur monkey who’s just a few days old. Despite (or because of?) his very young age, he’s got the whole snuzzy thing HANDLED. Check him out, will ya?
As if the cuteness going on over at the website wasn’t enough to kill productivity at any workplace, ZooBorns now has an iPhone application, which means that I can get the latest, cutest snuzz delivered directly to my phone, whenever I need it – even in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping… Which is how I got the news about this idiotic little bucket of Emporer Tamarins born at the Como Zoo in St. Paul…
Hey look, man, I can stop at any time. I DO NOT have a problem…
Check out those mustaches, eh? Ridiculous. You can see a couple more shots of these snuzzballs over here.
