This story’s been making the rounds this weekend: A baby chihuahua lost it’s mother during it’s birth and the shelter had no other animals that were currently nursing babies except for a cat. They put the baby chihuahua in with the cat and the cat provided it with the milk and warmth it needs to survive. Both are up for adoption as soon as they are no longer nursing.

Hi, Snuzzy readers! If any of you are in Ohio and looking to adopt a dog, please take a look at the Dogster blog. The shelter in Youngstown, Ohio is too full and many of the dogs who have been there for the longest amount of time need homes or they’ll be put down soon. If you can’t take in a dog yourself or don’t live close enough, please share this link with anyone you think might be able to help.

Who’s a good bird? Non-colorful birds like ravens and crows always get a bad rap. No one wants to own them as pets, but they’re so smart! This raven, named Julian, can talk! His care takers at the Horizon Wings shelter for birds of prey posted this video showing off his neat abilities. (via URLesque)

This is a video by The Humane Society of the United States about guinea pigs and how they’re often adopted by families as ‘practice pets’ for their kids, and then abandoned at shelters when the kid ‘graduates’ on to a cat or dog. It’s also a video full of guinea pigs making cute noises. It makes me want to adopt one!
