This is Tom Thumb. He’s a Chihuahua-Jack Russell cross that was born three weeks ago. He currently weighs just three ounces and measures 4 inches from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. The previous record for world’s smallest living dog belongs to Heaven Sent Brandy, a four-year-old chihuahua in Florida who is six inches long. As long as Tom Thumb doesn’t get much bigger, he will become the new title holder.

And the world will be a much better place because of it.

one tiny snuggly dog. I do a bit of house/dog sitting from time to time and he would be the perfect puppy to look after :)

You just have to love him.

OH, THIS LITTLE GUY IS SO CUTE…..I THINK THE REFERENCE TO HIS WEIGHT IN THE EXPLANATION BY OWNERS MIGHT BE MIS-TYPED. I DON’T THINK HE WEIGHS THREE OUNCES……HE LOOKS A BIT MORE THAN THAT, FOR SURE. AND HE IS A REAL LITTLE SNUGGLY SWEETIE SWEETIE.

Dude. Tom Thumb is three weeks old; of course he’s going to get bigger! Duh.

Cute puppy! If he’s only three weeks old, I certainly hope that he continues to grow. Also, he shouldn’t be separated from his mom and littermates this young!

One of my dogs is a JRT/chihuahua mix. She’s 11 lbs. I don’t think this dog will be overly tiny–lots of toy breeds are probably equally small at his age.

Hi, I breed Chi’s and I don’t think at 3 weeks he is overly small. He’ll probably grow a fair bit – which is normal. Dogs that are terribly small and stay small normally don’t have a long life and tend to suffer from illness, normally caused by inbreeding.
I’d always prefer a well bred, healthy dog to a teeny dog that’s always gonna be ill.

Tom Thumb is a cutie all right. Although I love tiny dogs, they can be expensive. My Junebug came to me as a rescue pup at 2.5 months. This Chi weighed 4 oz, had many medical conditions, including her skull frontal bone had not yet grown in over her tiny brain. Despite her many hardships, the vet and I gave her every chance to survive, which she has. Just two months ago, Junebug jumped off one of the beds and broke her front leg. As an adult she now weighs 3 lbs. but her bones are still so tiny that she had to go to a vet specialist to save the leg. Now, $3,000 later, Junie has the cast(s) off and is limping around on all four legs. But the girl can walk! Yes, tiny dogs are cute, but they can be a challenge on your wallet.

This baby will get quite a bit larger, though he will still be considered a small dog. He is a cute little thing though. Lucky people to have one so sweet!!

very very cute! but, isnt there an age requirement for smallest dog?! there are plenty of tiny tiny puppies – jack russells are small – but not tiny! how about a yorki chi mix?! or a full chi even will be much smaller! it kinda takes away from the designation if it is not a complete report and age specific…
